The cruellest part: the only reliable way to find out what your gold was worth was to sell it. Accept a jeweller's price, and only then discover the number — by giving up the very thing you wanted to hold.
Meanwhile, anyone who moved their gold into ETFs for the sake of a clean P&L found themselves holding a digital promise instead of the real thing, bought at today's prices, not the prices their physical gold was acquired at over decades.

Satyam has spent his career in financial journalism, content, and marketing, writing about markets, money, and the economic forces that shape everyday life in India. His father accumulated gold over decades the way most Indian families do: mini gold coins, silver articles, jewellery received as gifts. Not investments. Just savings, quietly held.

A few years ago Satyam sold most of it — not in one go, not with a plan. Piece by piece, whenever a need arose or a price looked right. He had no clear picture of what he held, what it had cost him, or what the full collection was worth at any given moment. So he sold the way most people sell gold: by feel. The result was poor timing, no strategy, and the quiet suspicion afterwards that he had left value on the table.
Some of the proceeds went into gold ETFs — a desire for a clean P&L, no trips to the jeweller, just a number on a screen. The logic was sound. The price was not. Those pieces had been bought at costs he will never see again. The ETFs that replaced them cost significantly more per gram. He had converted low-cost physical gold into high-cost digital gold and called it a sensible decision. The pieces were gone.

What we collect
MyAurum stores only what you choose to enter: your name, email, and the holding details you add. We do not collect behavioural data, track usage patterns, or build profiles.
Where it lives
Your holdings data is stored on encrypted servers — never shared, never sold. Sensitive fields are AES-256-GCM encrypted at the application layer before they reach the database. Nothing about your portfolio is accessible to any third party.
No ads, ever
MyAurum carries no advertising. Your financial data will never be sold, shared, or used to target you. The product exists to serve you — not to monetise your information.
